Råd og vedligeholdelse

Congratulations on your purchase! I really hope you get to ride a lot of amazing rides. I have created this section so you are well prepared to drive, so take the time to read it. The section is primarily made for electric scooters, but certain sections can also easily be used if you have bought an EUC, e-skateboard or an electric bike.

The most important thing is to ride safely, whether it is on your new electric scooter, EUC, e-skateboard or electric bike. This is not a toy; they are powerful machines so you need to learn to drive them properly and responsibly.
You can quickly figure out how to ride your electric scooter, but do yourself the favor of starting by riding in a safe place with limited obstacles. A few important things to keep in mind when driving:

Wear flat shoes

Plain shoes are ideal, I can not recommend flip-flops or sandals.
I highly recommend wearing a helmet at all times and other protective gear if you feel the need; such as: elbow and knee pads and padded gloves that provide a firmer grip on the handlebars. Especially if you're driving around on an EUC.
If you are driving in the dark, wear visible and reflective clothing.
As you drive, look ahead! I know it sounds silly, but there may be distractions around you. Be observant.
Do not use your phone while driving.
Make sure you know the features, that you understand the controller and know all aspects of what you are driving.
When riding your electric scooter, DO NOT pull or push the lever / handlebars. When accelerating or braking, do not pull or push on the lever / handlebars.
When riding your electric scooter, use your feet to move your center of mass. The handle / handlebar is not designed to carry a heavy weight, if you lean on it, pull and push it, you will have problems with it in the future.
I can not recommend driving in heavy rain, as it can be damaged, as this i.a. can damage the battery, your display and your motor, and it is not covered by the warranty if it is caused by water damage.

Setup before a trip and maintenance of your electric scooter

Overall, choosing a high quality electric scooter or EUC will mean you will have fewer problems, but if you neglect your electric scooter, EUC, e-skateboard or EUC and do not maintain it, it can be dangerous to drive.
Therefore, always make sure that it works and is fully maintained before driving on it. This means that:

The brakes must respond correctly, the tires must be inflated to the correct pressure (the correct tire pressure is on your tires), and the lights act on the front and rear.
Check that all bolts are tightened properly and that nothing loosens.
It is also a good idea to read the manual that came with your purchase and see what other preventative treatment the manufacturer recommends.

The braking system

Electric scooters have different braking methods, so read your supplied manual for specific instructions on maintaining the braking system. The impeller brakes wear over time just like anything else, so make sure they work properly. Here it can both be worthwhile to have your brake pads replaced and it can also be nice to check your brake discs at longer intervals (6-12 months). See here for accessories.

Driving in bad weather

With most electric scooters, you can ride in light rain. Some models are better equipped for rainy days than others. Models that have a Minimotors EY3 display are not waterproof, and it is therefore a really good idea to waterproof this. Here you can e.g. use some film and fasten it with a strip. If you can leave your electric scooter at home when there is heavy rain and snow, then this is recommended. If this can not be avoided, be sure to wipe the electrical parts off after use, especially around the engine, display and your brakes.

Driving in winter

You must expect that both your range and your top speed will drop during the winter period, when the weather outside is around freezing point. This is because the cold affects the battery's performance. As a general rule, you can deduct 5-10% from your range and top speed in the winter period - in certain episodes more than 10%. You can also consider investing in a pair of winter tires for your electric scooter. Make sure to get as much salt off the scooter as possible, as this is in no way good for your e-scooter, EUC or e-bike - it greatly increases the likelihood of rust. Find e.g. winter tires for your electric scooter under accessories.

Cleaning your electric scooter

Keeping your electric scooter clean will prevent dirt that can build up and cause problems in the long run. Try not to use water, but just a cloth or toothbrush for dirt that has accumulated under the tire, around the brakes and other small places. This section easily applies to any micro mobility you might have!

Battery - in general

You need to take care of your battery. This section applies to all types of batteries.

Never let the battery down to 0%, this applies on a regular trip but also when not in use, as this will reduce the life of the battery.
Never charge your battery when it is cold - this may slow down the life of the battery as well. Wait until it has reached room temperature.
Store your battery at room temperature. Exposing the battery to prolonged heat or cold can damage the battery or reduce its function.
If you notice that your battery is not working properly, perform a complete conditioning cycle. To do this, run your battery until it is completely empty, then charge it back to full power. This will fix many small issues similar to a computer reboot. You may need to do this two or three times to achieve the desired effect.
If you ride on your electric scooter in the rain, it may be a really good idea to remove all excess water with a towel immediately.
Use only the charger that came with your product or an official replacement. Using the wrong charger can lead to under- or overcharging of the battery and cause it to explode.

Battery - storage over a longer period

Charge your battery to 60-80% when not in use for an extended period of several months, e.g. over the winter.
Feel free to charge the battery once every 4-8. week to somewhere between 60-80% as your battery over time self-discharges.
Store your battery at room temperature, this applies whether you have bought an EUC, an electric scooter or an electric bicycle. Exposing the battery to prolonged heat or cold can damage the battery or reduce its function.

An overview of what percentage you can roughly count on that you have left as the battery loses capacity on a drive.
Avoid running out of power as this may in the long run shorten the life of your battery.
Find an overview of battery percentage here.

Maintenance of your bike

This section is mainly intended for rust problems on your bike that can cause you problems on even the best protected surfaces of your bike.

Prevention: It is always a good idea to wash the larger parts with a WD-40 bicycle cleaner and subsequently wipe off when you have been out in the rain, mud and other sleet. I can recommend you to invest in a WD-40 multifunction that i.a. protects the metal from rust and corrosion, which is subsequently used on all large parts. This is especially a good idea if you put the bike in the garage during the winter period when it is not in use.

When it has happened: rust on a chain, or gears and hubs behind must be treated with a WD-40 bicycle degreaser that removes grease, oil and dirt - and does not require rinsing. Once the rust has been removed, treatment is completed with WD-40 multifunction, while on the chain it is recommended to use WD-40 specialist chain lubrication on both the rear and the benefits.

Driving in winter: this is generally a period where there is a lot of salt on the roads. This greatly increases the likelihood of rust - so make sure to get as much dry as possible after a trip - especially with the larger electrical parts.

IP rating – hvor godt klarer dit el køretøj sig i naturens elementer?

IP (International protection) rating is a scale used to tell something about how resistant a given product is to water and dust.

Første tal / bogstav fortæller noget om, hvor modstandsdygtigt produktet er overfor støv.

The second number tells you something about how resistant the product is to water.

None = Possibly some water resistance, but not guaranteed; not suitable for wet conditions

IPX0 No protection

IPX4 Wet soil, fog / mist; light / infrequent rain

IPX5 = Light, constant rain, puddles

IPX6 = Protects against heavy rain from several angles.

IPX7 = Protects against immersion in water up to 1m. and 30min.

IP34 Rarely dusty, rocky roads; wet ground, fog, light / infrequent rain

IP4 Occasional off-road driving; wet ground, fog, light / infrequent rain

IP45 = Protected against water splashes from any angle

IP51 = Protected against less dusty roads and condensation

IP53 = Protects against water with a maximum inclination of 60 degrees compared to its normal position

IP54 Occasional off-road driving; wet ground, fog, light / infrequent rain

IP55 Occasional off-road driving; puddles, light, constant rain

IP56 = Protects against water spray from any angle, as well as the penetration of dust

IP65 Terrain; puddles, light, constant rain

IP67 Terrain; heavy, constant rain

And if we delve a little deeper into the numbers, the tables and classification look like this:

X = Not tested

0 = No protection

1 = Protected against objects> 50mm

2 = Protected against objects> 13mm

3 = Small objects> 2mm

4 = Very small objects> 1mm

5 = Very strong protection against dust

6 = Dustproof

X = Not tested

0 = No protection against water

1 = Dripping water

2 = Dripping water from a 15 ° upward angle

3 = Water spray up to 60 ° from an upward angle

4 = Water spray from any angle

5 = Water pressure from any angle

6 = High water pressure from any angle

6K = Very high water pressure from any angle

7 = Immersion in up to 1m water for 30 min.

8 = Immersion in water up to 3m

9K = Extremely high water pressure and high temperature at any angle
